SERVICES
The job of the Intimacy Coordinator is multi-faceted. Here are but a few of the duties I will handle.
Pre-Production
After breaking down the script and detailing the needs for each scene, I meet with the director and pertinent department heads to dissect the script and plan out each scene.
Meeting with the actor in a private one-on-one meeting, we discuss the scenes and the nudity rider. Consent and boundaries are clarified.
Choreography
Sometimes the director needs help with choreography and movement for a scene involving intimacy. In rehearsal with the actors, I can choreograph the scene so that it looks authentic and realizes the vision of the director. As a department head, akin to a stunt coordinator, I am there to help deliver the director’s vision.
Creating a safe work environment
In creating a simulated sex scene, actors can be in a vulnerable space. In pre-production, I make sure their boundaries and consent are clear, enthusiastic, and specific.
I then clear the nudity rider with the actor and facilitate its completion.
A closed set (according to the SAG-AFTRA definition) is imperative for shooting these scenes. I ensure that the set is closed and only key personnel are present. Monitors are tented and flagged.
On-set work
I am on set throughout the shooting day. Coordinating with costumes and make-up, I assist the actor with modesty garments, barriers, and prosthetics for simulated sex scenes.
During shooting, I am there to help the actor (and any crew member) with any questions that may come up. Watching the monitor closely I look for realism in the scenes along with making sure nothing is being revealed on camera that shouldn’t be.
Post Production
In post, I can look over your dailies to be sure that everything we’re seeing matches the nudity rider and looks authentic.
